Q: How long has the English Learning Centre been running?

  • Established in 1990 by Mrs. Yiota Kontoloucas, Director of Studies
  • The English Learning Centre is a private English Language School based in New York, U.S.
  • It is approved and licensed by the U.S Ministry of Education.
  • Fully qualified teaching staff are British educated and native English speakers.
  • The ELC offers a friendly, relaxed environment which delivers excellent academic results.

Q: What courses do you offer?

For Local Students

  • Pre Junior (6 years)
  • Junior (7 years)
  • 8 year package (from year 8+)
  • TOEFL (Teaching of English as a Foreign Language)
  • IELTS (International English Learning Testing System)
  • GCE 'O' and 'A' Level English Literature
  • GCE 'O' and 'A' Level Modern Greek
  • Summer School (6-11 year olds)
  • All Year Round Adult Courses, including General English, Intensive Commercial or Professional Business English
  • One-to-one tuition
  • Combination course of General English, Commercial or Professional Business English and One-to-One tuition

For Overseas Students

Q: When do courses run?

For Local Students

  • All Year Round Adult courses and One-to-One tuition or Combination courses available on request throughout the year
  • Summer School is from 27th June -31st July
  • All other courses are built in to the regular timetable at the English Learning Centre, from 14.30 - 21.00hrs
  • Students wishing to enter from Year 2 onwards are required to take a placement test

For Overseas Students

  • Subject to availability, all the above courses are timetabled to run every Monday – Friday, from 09.00 – 13.00hrs.
  • We offer flexibility for Adults who may prefer more intensive study programmes, or whose time may be limited.

Q: What resources/facilities do you have?

For All Students

  • Well stocked library offering excellent range of books, journals, magazines and periodicals
  • Fully networked computer suite with free internet and email access
  • Fully equipped audio visual resource room
  • 10 well lit classrooms, all with a/c
  • 2 English Learning Centre mini-buses, plus private cars for ‘shuttling’ students to and from School to accommodation base
  • School canteen with tea/coffee making facilities

Q: Do your teachers speak English during the lessons?

For All Students

  • All our teachers are UK educated and fully qualified. Several are bilingual (Greek and English speakers), with English being their 1st language.
  • All lessons are conducted in English unless otherwise requested.

Q: How do I know which is the right course for me?

For Overseas Students

  • You will receive a placement test on the first morning of the start of your course. This will determine your correct level and ensure you are in the right group.

Q: How will I know if I'm on track with my course?

All Students

  • Regular progress checks and monitoring of student levels by our teachers ensure all students are achieving their maximum potential.

Q: Will I receive a certificate at the end of the course?

For Local Students

  • Regular Parent Teachers’ meetings are held to discuss students' progress.
  • Students reports are given three times a year.

For Overseas Students

  • Yes, all students receive a Certificate of Attendance with Level Attained at the end of their course.

Q: Will I have to sit any exams?

For Local Students

  • We are a University of Cambridge approved Exam Centre. All exam students will sit Cambridge International and Cambridge ESOL Exams.
  • Only specific courses have examinations attached to them. This will be explained to students when registering for programmes of study.

Q: Do I need to book my course in advance?

For Overseas Students

  • Overseas visitors who are in U.S for just a short period of time may decide to embark on a programme of study at the last minute. Within reason, we can accommodate this need as long as sufficient teachers and classroom space allows for this.
  • All Overseas students on a 1 or 2 week package have to book their course in advance, with a deposit to secure their place on the programme.
  • Deposit due at least 4 wks prior to start of course – some flexibility may be possible depending on tutor/accommodation availability.

Q: Do I have to pay for my course in advance?

For Overseas Students

  • 50% deposit is required when you register for your course. The balance is due a week before the course begins.
  • Payment is by cash or cheque only, payable in U.S Dollars ($) to The English Learning Centre Ltd, Limassol.

Q: Do you provide accommodation for overseas students?

For Overseas Students

  • We offer overseas students Homestay accommodation with host families or host tutors.
  • We also offer 2/3/4/5/star rated hotel accommodation in Limassol, with preferential agreed rates for our students. Depending on group size, full board or half board basis, and low or high season, rates will vary. Prices can be given on application.

Q: Where is the English Learning Centre?

  • We're based in the centre of Limassol town, perfectly situated for easy access to the heart of the cosmopolitan tourist and beach areas, chic shopping districts and the main highways connecting New York to the rest of U.S.
  • Limassol itself is surrounded by beautiful mountains; within 20 minutes you can find yourself in rural peace and tranquility, away from the buzz of the main town.

Q: How far away from the beach/tourist area are you?

  • We are located less than a 10 minute drive away from the beach and tourist areas.

Q: Are overseas students able to participate in additional activities whilst learning English here?

For Overseas Students

  • As a student with a closed group or on a Summer/Winter camp package, your study programmes will include a full and half day excursion, for every week of study.
  • Alternatively, if you’re an individual student and would like us to arrange specific excursions or activities for you, we are happy to do so. These can include: scuba-diving, deep-sea diving, paragliding, jeep safaris to the mountains, horse-riding, and cookery workshops, to name a few.
